overview

As part of my ongoing freelance role with L'affare, I designed a display stand and coffee pots for a pop-up event to support the retail launch of their Chocca coffee beans.

As part of my ongoing freelance role with L'affare, I designed a display stand and coffee pots for a pop-up event to support the retail launch of their Chocca coffee beans.

Context

The pop-up was held in the Wellington Train Station, offering free cups of Chocca filter coffee. The display needed to grab the attention of commuters, while bringing visibility to Chocca and the L'affare brand. I was briefed to adapt the Chocca branding and packaging art into three initial iterations for both the display and coffee pots.

I was briefed to adapt the Chocca branding and packaging art into three initial iterations for both the display and coffee pots.

Process

I initially struggled to create three designs visually distinct from one another, so I explored separating the art piece into its individual elements and rearranging them to create display borders and graphics. I wanted the artwork's dynamic energy to be the focus.

Iterations

With the Chocca packaging also on the display table, I was careful not to make the overall scene visually overwhelming. For the busier displays, I toned down the coffee pot designs. Iteration three was chosen to further develop, and I was advised to just feature plain text on the coffee pot design.

Feedback

The multicoloured background caused some text contrast issues. I was treating the smaller copy more as visual elements, so readability was less important. The Chocca and L'affare logos needed to be clear, so I made some changes. When exporting, I ensured all settings were optimised for the over 1.5-meter-wide print.

Outcome

This display helped the pop-up supply 500 free cups of coffee to commuters, building familiarity in potential customers and increasing brand visibility and awareness.
